Ein großer Teil kastrierter und unkastrierter Rüden leidet vor allem im fortgeschrittenen Alter an pathologischen Veränderungen der Prostata (Bsp.: Benigne Prostatahyperplasie, Prostatazysten, Prostataabszesse, Prostatitiden, Prostatatumore). Diese werden meist durch digitale rektale Untersuchung, Sonographie, Röntgen oder Computertomographie diagnostiziert. Aufgrund einzelner Limitationen der bisherigen diagnostischen Möglichkeiten wird die Diagnose eines Prostatakarzinoms bis heute häufig im fortgeschrittenen Stadium der Erkrankung gestellt, da bei Auftreten prostatatypischer Symptome bereits Metastasen in den sublumbalen Lymphknoten, dem axialen Skelett und der Lunge vorzufinden sind.
Ziel dieser Studie ist es die mp-MRT, die bereits beim Mann routinemäßig zur Früherkennung von Prostatatumoren angewendet wird, zur Prostatadiagnostik beim Rüden zu evaluieren. Begleitend soll die Konzentration der Caninen Prostataspezifischen Arginin-Esterase (CPSE) im Serum gemessen werden.

Die Echokardiographie ist ein essentieller Bestandteil der Abklärung von Herzerkrankungen des Hundes. Hierbei spielt die Erhebung von verschiedenen Messwerten eine große Rolle. Aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Körpergröße und -konformation verschiedener Hunderassen gibt es auch rassespezifische Unterschiede in der Anatomie des Herzens. Um eine Verbesserung der echokardiographischen Abklärung von Hunden der Rasse Mops zu ermöglichen, werden in dieser Studie echokardiographische Referenzwerte für den Mops ermittelt.

Small intestinal strangulation with concurrent ischemia represents a serious threat to the equine population. Although many of these lesions can be treated surgically, there is need for effective strategies to further decrease the occurrence of complications and thereby decreasing the mortality rate after small intestinal surgery. Until now, different animal models have demonstrated the positive effect of ischemic post-conditioning (IPoC) in modulating the injury caused by ischemia and reperfusion. In contrast to ischemic pre-conditioning (IPreC), which has little applicability in colic patients as the ischemia is already ongoing, IPoC represents a feasible therapeutic strategy for clinical use. However, no studies have been performed in horses and the previously documented experimental models differ greatly from the intestinal ischemia as seen in horses. The major objective of this study is to investigate the effect of IPoC in an experimental model of equine intestinal ischemia. By looking at different parameters of local and systemic biochemistry, inflammatory signs, tissue integrity and function, the aim is to detect differences between the test group undergoing IPoC, compared to the control group. Possible positive effects of IPoC on I/R Injury due to small intestinal strangulation, could lead to the development of adapted strategies during colic surgery.

The Lower Saxonian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection has adopted a regulation on the prevention of cattle against Johnes Disease in 2017. Since than all dairy cattle >24 month have to be tested and advice has to be administered to positively tested herds. Additionally, cattle tested positive are not allowed to be transported into farms in Lower Saxony. Frequent testing are intended to focus the awareness for MAP in cattle herds and to contain the spread of disease between farms.
Aim of the study was to analyse the present MAP-prevalence in Lower Saxonian dairy cattle herds. Modifying factors were also be considered. As the prevalence depends on the performance of the applied diagnostic tests, it was be assessed, if there is indication of a test accuracy of ELISA better than expected.

African Swine Fever (ASF) was first introduced into the Caucasus in 2014. Since then it has spread in Eastern Europe, to China, and, since September 2020, to Germany. An outbreak of ASF in the wild boar population and especially in do-mestic pig farms has long-lasting consequences for the international trade with pigs and pig meat products. It results in major financial loss for the affected countries. To prevent an introduction of ASF and its spread in Germany, German authorities and involved associations have made particular efforts to implement protective measures against ASF. The measures focus on preventing an intro-duction of ASF into domestic pig farms. Informing and educating farmers and veterinarians about ASF is of particular importance.
The research project aimed to explore the range of knowledge, attitudes and rea-soning of pig farmers concerning preventative measures against ASF and to compare these findings with implemented measures on their farms. The results can be used to identify possible deficits and to develop improved training con-cepts for involved parties.

Einen erfolgreichen zur Zucht eingesetzten Championrüden zu besitzen, bei dem die von ihm gedeckten Hündinnen leer bleiben, der demnach plötzlich und unbemerkt infertil (geworden) ist, und bei dessen spermatologischer Untersuchung das Fehlen von Spermien (Azoospermie) diagnostiziert wird, ist für die Besitzer häufig mit einem hohen Leidensdruck assoziiert. Die Tatsache, dass die Infertilität zudem häufig eine schlechte Prognose hat und irreversibel sein kann, stellt auch den behandelnden Tierarzt vor große Herausforderungen. Das völlige Fehlen von Spermien im Ejakulat, die sogenannte Azoospermie, ist mit 34.8% der häufigste Befund bei unfruchtbaren Rüden. Die testikuläre, nicht-obstruktive Form der Azoospermie (NOA) kommt beim Rüden, wie auch bei anderen Spezies wie dem Menschen, am häufigsten vor. Generell kann eine NOA angeboren oder erworben sein. Die Abklärung, ob es sich um eine angeborene oder erworbene Problematik handelt, ist bei Rüden, die nie erfolgreich gedeckt haben, schwierig bis unmöglich. Bei Rüden, die zunächst nachweislich fertil waren, ist die Azoospermie, also die Infertilität, jedoch eindeutig erworben. Als Ursachen spielen hier Hoden-Neoplasien, aber auch infektiöse und nicht-infektiöse Orchitiden, z. B. infolge von Traumata eine bedeutende Rolle.
Bei der klinisch-andrologischen Untersuchung fallen Rüden mit NOA häufig durch weiche Hoden mit entsprechenden sonographischen Befunden (verbreitertes Rete testis, aufgelockertes Hodenparenchym) auf. Weitere Abklärung kann nur eine Hodengewebeprobe/-biopsie bringen, die aber vom Besitzer aufgrund der schlechten Prognose bezüglich Wiederherstellung der Fertilität häufig abgelehnt wird.
Die in der Literatur vorliegenden Einzelfallberichte postulieren, basierend auf histologischen Untersuchungen von Hodengewebe betroffener Tiere, die autoimmune Orchitis als eine bedeutende bzw. die Ursache der NOA beim Hund. Eigene Untersuchungen an einem größeren Kollektiv konnten die Bedeutung der immun-mediiierten Orchitis bestätigen. Die beteiligten Immunzellen wurden von der AG identifiziert. Nun stellt sich die Frage, welche Entzündungsmarker exprimiert werden und welche Rolle die Apoptose, der gerichtete Zelltod, bei der Entstehung und Aufrechterhaltung spielt.

Anhand von zwei Fragebögen soll das Wissen über das Vorgehen von nationalen und internationalen Katzenzüchtern zu Kontrazeption und Zucht näher erfaßt werden.Die Zielgruppe sind Katzenzüchter. Die Datenerhebung erfolgt anonym, die Auswertung der Daten kann mit Hilfe des in der Software enthaltenden Auswerttools erfolgen.
Die Untersuchungen sollen zum besseren Verständnis von Tierärzten und Katzenzüchtern beitragen
