TiHo was one of the first universities in Germany to introduce a PhD program in 1998, followed by the establishment of a Graduate School in 2001.
In 2011, it was restructured and since then bears the name "Hannover Graduate School for Veterinary Pathobiology, Neuroinfectiology, and Translational Medicine" (HGNI).
