Treatment of inner ear disorders and how to bring an idea from bench to bedside

Scheper, Schwieger

single Workshop, 4 hours, max. 15 participants

Thu 05.06.25, 09:00 - 13:00

Aim of this course is to provide participants with knowledge regarding the sense of hearing, inner ear pathologies, and potential therapies. Based on this, the development of new therapeutic strategies within this domain and their progression towards clinical implementation will be discussed.
A first lecture block will give an overview about the physiology of hearing and the special anatomy of the inner ear, followed by common pathologies and their corresponding in vitro and in vivo models. The second block will introduce existing therapeutic options and examples for the development, testing, and translation of novel therapeutic approaches into clinical application will be presented.
The course culminates with a tour of our laboratories, offering insight into the progression of new therapies from conceptualization, through cell culture experimentation, to in vivo studies, and ultimately, their application in patients afflicted with hearing impairments.
Ample opportunities for questions and discussions will be provided throughout both the lecture sessions and the laboratory tour.
