Welcome!

A warm welcome from the entire library team.

We provide an extensive range of textbooks, specialist books, e-books, journals, dissertations and other media relating to veterinary medicine and related disciplines.
We also offer training and advice on academic writing and working.

What do we offer on-site?

In our reading room we offer individual workstations (with and without computer) as well as group areas. We also offer free WLAN and devices for printing, scanning and copying. All important textbooks are available for you to borrow (yellow tape) and can also be used as reference copies (red tape) on site for studying.

How is the course book collection in the library organized?

The course book collection is freely accessible in the reading room. The titles are arranged according to subject area. Each title is given a shelfmark consisting of letters for the subject area (e.g. Ca for anatomy) and a number. For newer editions of the same title, the next higher number is assigned.

Registering for the library

In order to borrow books from us, it is necessary for you to register at the library. For this we need your identity card (or passport + confirmation of registration from the public order office) and a signature from you stating that you agree to our library rules and data protection regulations. You can find a registration form on our homepage at
Borrowing and ordering.

Library card

Your TiHo card is also your library card. Your library card number is the 10-digit number on the back of the TiHo card, which is located directly above or below the barcode.

Searching for literature

Around 30% of our media are freely accessible in the reading room. A further 70% are located in the library stacks and can be ordered for loan. To search for literature in our complete collection, please use our Library catalogue.

For first-year students, we also recommend VetCenter and our search engine VetSearch.

Borrowing books

Reference books and textbooks can generally be borrowed for 28 days, journals from the reading room for 3 days. Books with a red (reference copy) or gray adhesive strip (reference library) as well as current journal titles (e.g. in the journal tower) cannot be borrowed.

Extending & reserving

You can extend the loan periods of your borrowed books several times yourself or reserve books for loan if they have been borrowed by other people. To do this, please use your personal library account in the library catalogue of the TiHo.

Library account (extending)

To extend books online yourself, you must log in to your library account.
You will need: Your 10-digit ID number and your password. The default setting is your date of birth: DDMMYY. You should change your password after your first login.

Please click on the borrowing tab at the top of your account screen and then select the desired title using the checkbox.

Important: Please note that media reserved by another person can no longer be renewed and must therefore be returned by you on time.

Fees

Fees will be charged if the loan period for borrowed media is exceeded:

1st reminder: 2€ per book
2nd reminder: 5€ per book (plus costs of previous reminder) = 7€
3rd reminder: 10€ per book (plus costs of previous reminders) = 17€

Fees can be paid in cash at the library or by bank transfer.
