Research Tips & Links

Searching for Specific Journal Titles

EZB - Electronic Journals Library
The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) supports the search for scholarly full-text journals. The EZB allows you to see which electronic journals are accessible through our institution and which volumes and issues are available. An integrated traffic light system indicates the available access options:

  • Red: No full-text access is available through our institution.
  • Red/Yellow: Only part of the available full-text content is licensed for our institution.
  • Yellow: Full-text access is fully licensed for members of our institution.
  • Green: Full-text content is freely available on the internet.

If an online journal is also available in print in our library, the print holdings are displayed in the detailed record and linked to the German Union Catalogue of Serials (ZDB).

Please note: The EZB indexes journal titles rather than individual articles. To locate an article, first identify the journal in which it was published and then search for the journal title in the EZB.

Further guidance on using the EZB can be found here.

ZDB - German Union Catalogue of Serials
While the EZB indicates whether and to what extent our institution provides access to an electronic journal, the German Union Catalogue of Serials (ZDB) helps you identify which libraries hold a particular print and/or electronic journal. In addition to information on publication format (print or electronic) and publication history, the holdings information allows you to determine whether a title is available at TiHo, in the local region, or at another library.

Tip: For searching TiHo holdings, we recommend using our library catalogue. The ZDB is particularly useful when you are looking for journals that are not available in our collection.

Further guidance on using the ZDB can be found here.

OPAC - Our Library Catalogue
Our library catalogue provides access to the complete print and electronic holdings of TiHo, including our entire journal collection. After signing in with your library account, you can also renew loans, reserve items, and submit item requests.

VetSearch - Online Journals
As part of our discovery system VetSearch, you can also search our electronic holdings specifically for licensed journals. The link above will take you directly to the corresponding search interface.

Searching for Literature by Topic

If you are not looking for a specific journal, but rather for literature on a particular topic or for individual articles, we recommend using selected subject-specific and interdisciplinary databases. As a supplement, you may also use our discovery system VetSearch as well as search services such as OpenAlex and Google Scholar.

An overview of available databases can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS). The database collections provided for TiHo can help you identify the most suitable database for your research topic.

Further information is available under the database section.

Making use of print and online resources

Detailed information on how to use the library and our holdings, the campus delivery service, interlibrary loan and the document delivery service Subito can be found here.
As a library, we acquire access rights through campus licences. This allows members of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation to access the full texts of licensed e‑journals. Access is available on all computers within the campus network (IP authentication). In addition, members of TiHo can also access licensed content from private devices by connecting to the eduroam Wi‑Fi network. Depending on the publisher, external access (remote access) may also be available via ezProxy and/or Shibboleth.
