The publisher Springer Nature and the DEAL project have agreed on a nationwide contract. This agreement enables researchers to publish in about 2,500 Springer Nature journals in open access and also offers participating institutions comprehensive access to a large part of Springer Nature's journal portfolio. This includes access to the current volumes of all Springer journals (incl. BioMed Central, Springer Medical, Palgrave, Adis and Macmillan Academic).

Where would you like to publish?

Journal in which some articles are open access (hybrid)

In over 1900 journals of the publishing group, it is possible to make one's own articles open access in order to remove the payment barrier and increase the visibility of the articles (hybrid open access/open choice). This open access is supported by a publication fee.

Participation in the DEAL contract enables the TiHo to cover these publication costs centrally. Thus, open access publication in these subscription journals is free of charge for TiHo authors.

  • Additional services, such as the Front Cover Fee, are not covered by the university.
  • Eligible authors are members of the TiHo who publish in Open Access with the status Corresponding Author.
  • If possible, please choose the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) offered.
  • As an author you will not receive an invoice.

Journal in which all articles are open access (gold)

Publication fees apply for publications in purely open access journals of the publishing group. However, through the DEAL contract, TiHo authors receive a 20% discount on these costs (except in Scientific Reports & Nature Communications).

These publication fees must be paid by the corresponding author!

However, authors do not receive an individual invoice, as the publication fees are invoiced centrally by the TiHo. However, the costs are then passed on to the TiHo authors (for organisational reasons, invoicing can take a few months).
However, the publication costs can be funded via the publication fund of the TiHo if they are less than 2000€ (incl. VAT). Please submit a funding applicationfor this immediately after acceptance of the article.

  • Authorised authors are members of the TiHo who publish with the status Corresponding Author.
  • If possible, please choose the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) offered.
  • Authors do not receive an invoice.
