Many library services are accessible via the TiHo campus network by default. In order to be able to use them from home or on the road as a member of TiHo, you need external access to the library resources. By logging in via our service providers, you will be recognised as an authorised TiHo user in the current browser session by the publishers of licensed electronic resources. Depending on the provider, external access can be granted via EZproxy, Shibboleth, or both authentication methods.
In case of access problems, please send an e-mail to the library (preferably with a screenshot).
EZproxy-Login
EZproxy provides access to selected licensed online resources at TiHo.
Please note: The links will usually redirect you to the platforms of the respective providers. These platforms display their complete range of content, of which only selected resources are licensed for TiHo. As a result, some full texts may not be accessible. We are happy to check the availability of a title for you. Simply send us an email.

After clicking the link, you will be directed to a login page. Please enter your IDM number and corresponding password to proceed. Once logged in, you can choose the desired product from the list provided.
Upon redirection to the provider’s platform, ensure that the URL still begins with “ezproxy.tiho-hannover.de[…]” – this confirms that EZproxy is active.
Important: URLs of full texts accessed via EZproxy cannot be used for citation. Please cite using the DOI, URN, or (e)ISBN of the respective resource.
Shibboleth-Login
Login takes place directly on the provider’s platform. Make sure to select the correct login option – usually labeled Institutional Login or Single Sign-On.
Then choose the correct federation and TiHo as your institution from the drop-down menu:
- DFN-AAI (German Higher Education and Research)
- Stiftung Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover (sometimes listed as "University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover")
You will then be redirected to a login screen where you can enter your IDM number and password.
Note: Starting July 2025, login will be handled via the new server at idp.tiho-hannover.de. If TiHo appears twice in the institution list, the outdated entry will be marked accordingly.
