How does the submission of my dissertation work?

All doctoral regulations (doctorate and PhD programmes) of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation provide for the publication of the doctoral thesis for the scientific public. For a free publication of all university theses, the library operates the repository TiHo eLib. Please note that print copies must also be submitted for electronic publication.

Where do I hand in the printed copies for the referees?

To pass on your review copies to the referees, please contact the doctoral office (doctoral studies and PhD-Programmes).

When is the deadline for submission to the library?

The usual deadline is: Friday, 12 PM (one week before the graduation ceremony).

What do I have to look out for in a copy shop / bookbinder?

No ring binding, but adhesive or glue binding.

At least your name and the title of the work on the book cover/bound.

Check during test printing:

  • Are the tables, illustrations and inserted publications displayed correctly?
  • Is the page numbering correct?
  • Does the binding hold?

What do I have to consider when creating my bibliography?

The guidelines adopted by the Library Commission in 2021 are not binding. All scholarly citation styles used in journals - as long as they are consistently applied - are acceptable.
The library recommends the use of a citation style of a scientific journal from your research field and the inclusion of persistent identifiers (DOI, URN, etc.) for the indexing of electronic resources.

Please consult with your academic supervisor.

What if I have my publication printed by a publisher or plan to do so?

Your copyrights remain protected and the use of TiHo eLib does not prevent further publication!  Please check whether your contract with the publisher allows publication on the repository! With SHERPA/ROMEO, check the usual practice of your publisher or contact them directly.

Include the publisher's pages (and the cover/spine if you wish) in your PDF version.
The page count of the dissertation does not have to be continued in the inserted PDFs.

Can I insert the full text of my articles?

In any case, please check whether your contract with the publisher allows publication on the repository! Check with SHERPA/ROMEOthe common practice of your publisher or contact them directly.

If the article is allowed to be printed, insert the article as a PDF file (no inclusion as image formats, photo files, etc.).

If the publisher does not allow publication, replace the text with a source reference ( e.g. :Last name, First name: Essay title. In: journal title, volume number (year) issue number, p. beginning page end page, DOI) with abstract if required.

Can I publish additional documents or data relating to my dissertation?

You are welcome to publish related research data in connection with your dissertation. Usually, it is advisable to create a separate entry in the TiHo eLib for this purpose. Please contact forschungsdaten@tiho-hannover.deafter submitting the PDF document.
