How does the submission of my habilitation thesis work?

The habilitation regulations of the University of Veterinary Medicine Foundation provide for the publication of the habilitation for the scientific public. For a free publication of all university theses, the library operates the repository TiHo-eLib. Please note that print copies must also be submitted for electronic publication.

Where do I hand in the printed copies for the referees?

To pass on your review copies to the referees, please contact the President's Office .

What do I need to submit my habilitation thesis?

For publication we need from you:

  1.     The habilitation thesis as a PDF document
  2.     6 (3) printed copies of your thesis
  3.     Abstract and summary for uploading to the repository
  4.     The declaration of publication (Veröffentlichungserklärung)

Please complete the declaration of consent on the computer and then bring it to us, print it out and sign it, together with the printed copies.

What formal requirements do I have to fulfil?

Your PDF document should meet our technical and formal requirements.

Please refer to the section „Which technical requirements must the PDF ducument fulfil?

There are no specifications for the submission form (font size, font type and format) of habilitations.
However, the usual format is DIN A4 / DIN A5, printed on both sides, font size 12, no ring binding.

It is usual for the summary to be preceded by your name and the title of the habilitation thesis.

Please print the date of the "non-public scientific debate" on the back of the title page (if not inserted by the habilitation candidate, this must be added by the library).

Have all legal questions concerning the published articles and manuscripts been clarified?

What do I have to consider when creating my bibliography?

The guidelines adopted by the Library Commission in 2021 are not binding. All scholarly citation styles used in journals - as long as they are consistently applied - are acceptable.
The library recommends the use of a citation style of a scientific journal from your research field and the inclusion of persistent identifiers (DOI, URN, etc.) for the indexing of electronic resources.

What if I have my publication printed by a publisher or plan to do so?

Your copyrights remain protected and the use of TiHo eLib does not prevent further publication!  Please check whether your contract with the publisher allows publication on the repository! With SHERPA/ROMEO, check the usual practice of your publisher or contact them directly.

Include the publisher's pages (and the cover/spine if you wish) in your PDF version.

Can I insert the full text of my articles?

In any case, please check whether your contract with the publisher allows publication on the repository! Check with SHERPA/ROMEOthe common practice of your publisher or contact them directly.

If the article is allowed to be printed, insert the article as a PDF file (no inclusion as image formats, photo files, etc.).

If the publisher does not allow publication, replace the text with a source reference ( e.g. :Last name, First name: Essay title. In: journal title, volume number (year) issue number, p. beginning page end page, DOI) with abstract if required.

Can I publish additional documents or data on my habilitation thesis?

You are welcome to publish related research data in connection with your dissertation. Usually, it is advisable to create a separate entry in the TiHo eLib for this purpose. Please contact forschungsdaten(at)tiho-hannover.deafter submitting the PDF document.

How do I refer to my habilitation in TiHoDozis?

To specify it as an online resource, you can use the function: Copy citation link. This link contains a URN (Uniform Resource Name) of the German National Library as a persistent identifier.

How do I hand it in? Can I send it by post?

It is not necessary to submit in person.
You are welcome to submit the form and printed copies to us via post, in person after arrangement, during opening hours at the front desk or via the book return box.

Upload PDF file via TiHo-eLib .

The submission confirmation will be issued after checking for completeness and forwarded directly to the responsible office.
