Small Mammals

In the Department of Small Mammals, we take care of your rabbits, rodents (guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, etc.), ferrets, or other exotic pets. We also provide medical care for injured or sick hedgehogs and other native wildlife.

SURGERY

We perform various surgical procedures such as dental treatments, soft tissue surgeries, and fracture care. We have fully reversible injectable anesthesia and inhalation anesthesia available, which allows for a particularly short recovery phase after surgery and the highest possible safety for our patients.

CONSULTATION

During our consultation hours, we offer preventive examinations and advice on feeding and housing your pet tot prevent common diseases. Because every pet has different needs in its environment. All animals are thoroughly examined clinically first.

DIAGNOSTICS

Advanced diagnostics such as X-rays (possibly with contrast medium passage), sonography, laboratory diagnostics, or computed tomography can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis to determine the cause of the illness.

INPATIENT CARE

If intensive care for your pet is necessary in severe cases, which cannot be provided at home (such as intravenous therapy), our inpatient area is available for this purpose. Here, our patients are monitored and medically cared for around the clock.

STUDENT TRAINING

During consultations, the care of inpatients, as well as in lectures and exercises, veterinary students learn about the specifics of medical care for pets.

RESEARCH

In addition tot clinical work and teaching, another focus of our work is on planning and conducting clinical studies. These studies aim tot further research diseases and possible treatments to constantly improve the clinical care of our patients.
