Research and knowledge transfer

Since October 1, 2019, WING has belonged to the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover as the research institute Science and Innovation for Sustainable Poultry Production. WING is located in Vechta (Lower Saxony).

Research fields
Within the scope of the main research areas of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, WING’s staff studies the most diverse dynamics and challenges of the current and future-oriented production of eggs and poultry meat. The research projects are oriented towards the main goal of an innovative and sustainable poultry meat and egg production, with special regard to national as well as global contexts. Scientific projects in the fields of animal health, animal husbandry and management, animal nutrition, sustainability, environmental protection and food production are implemented in an inter- and transdisciplinary context. Possible interactions of regulatory conditions of animal husbandry, international market influences as well as consumer behaviour are also in the context of the research focus. You can find more about our research here.

Knowledge transfer
The transfer of knowledge about poultry farming and the production of eggs or poultry meat is another essential task of WING. For this purpose, WING organises field trips for schools, universities and for interested groups to poultry farms as well as to companies in the value chain. Furthermore, user-related materials are made available, e.g. for teaching purposes. For further information, please click here.

Directors
The WING is temporarily headed by Prof. Dr. Nicole Kemper (Director of the Institute for Animal Hygiene, Animal Welfare and Farm Animal Behaviour (ITTN), TiHo) and Prof. Dr. Christian Visscher (Director of the Institute for Animal Nutrition, TiHo).
