Veterinarians with examinations before 01.07.2002

The specialist knowledge is proven by "... the certificate on passing the veterinary examination according to the licensing regulations for veterinarians, which shows an examination in the examination subject radiology, ...". (according to § 3 (3) 2. c) RöV of 08.01.1987, versions before 18.06.2002).

Veterinary surgeons with examinations from 01.07.2002 and before 01.07.2004

According to the statement of the State Trade Supervisory Office Hanover, the competent authority according to §18a (1) sentence 5 RöV (of 08.01.1987, last amended on 18.06.2002, entered into force on 01.07.2002), of 19.02.2003, veterinary medicine examination candidates acquire the specialist knowledge according to the RöV after passing the examination by attending the radiology lecture, the prescribed practical courses and the successfully passed radiology examination.

For this purpose, the following passage shall be included in the final certificate:

"The competent authority has determined that the specialist knowledge in radiation protection according to the Ordinance on Protection against Damage by X-rays (X-ray Ordinance - RöV) of 08 January 1987 (BGBl. I p. 114), last amended by Article 1 of the Ordinance of 18 June 2002 (BGBl. I p. 1869) has been acquired, as this was examined in a special part."

All graduates who received their certificate in the above-mentioned period and whose certificate does not yet contain this additional entry will receive an appropriate supplement to their certificate on request from the Department for Student and Academic Affairs of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation.

Veterinarians with examinations from 01.07.2004 and before 01.04.2005

As determined by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment, the competent authority according to §18a (1) sentence 5 RöV (in the version of the announcement of 30.04.2003), in June 2004, veterinary medicine examination candidates acquire the specialist knowledge according to the RöV after passing the examination by attending the radiology lecture, the prescribed practical courses and the successfully passed radiology examination.

For this purpose, the following passage was included in the graduation certificate:

"The Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment has determined that the specialist knowledge in radiation protection according to the Ordinance on Protection against Damage by X-rays (X-ray Ordinance - RöV) in the version of the announcement of 30.04.2003 (BGBl. I p. 604) has been acquired, as this was examined in a special part."

All graduates who received their certificate in the above-mentioned period and whose certificate does not yet contain this additional entry can obtain a corresponding supplementary sheet to their certificate from the Department for Student and Academic Affairs of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation.

Veterinarians with examinations after 01.04.2005

The requirements for the acquisition of the specialist knowledge are laid down in the guideline "Radiation Protection in Veterinary Medicine". This came into force on 01.03.2005. The requirements of the guideline have been implemented at the TiHo, so that since 01.04.2005 it has also been possible to acquire specialist knowledge within the training. Regular attendance of lectures and exercises, passing the radiology examination and sufficient practical experience during the practical year are required.

Veterinarians with exams after 31.12.2018

The restructuring of the radiation protection law has not led to any changes with regard to the acquisition of specialist knowledge. Regular attendance of lectures and exercises, passing the radiology examination and attendance of the radiation protection seminar as well as sufficient practical experience during the practical year continue to be a prerequisite for the acquisition of the general qualification within the course of study.
