The working group of Prof. Dr. Maren von Köckritz-Blickwede is strongly committed to the teaching and further development of occupational safety and biosafety content at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo). As the officer for biological safety, Prof. von Köckritz-Blickwede coordinates, together with the RIZ management team, the annual Safety Week at the Research Center for Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (RIZ). Within this format, practice-oriented online learning modules are offered via Moodle, specifically tailored to the requirements of the veterinary medical environment.
Information about the Safety Week can be found in the internal TiHo section:
In addition, as part of the project “Innovation plus” (2022/23), funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, she developed a comprehensive Moodle course on occupational safety, which is available to all staff and students. The course provides modular learning units covering essential foundations of accident prevention, safe handling of hazardous substances, and protective measures when working with animals, with a particular focus on the risks posed by zoonoses.
The aim of the course is to raise awareness among all participants regarding safety-related aspects in daily work at TiHo and to enable them to independently prevent hazards. The course includes:
- short audio lectures on key topics
- accompanying comprehension checks
- interactive case studies from practice
- certificates of participation for documentation
A professional quality review was carried out in cooperation with the clinics as well as the Department of Waste Management & Environmental Protection, Occupational Safety & Fire Protection. Our special thanks go to all contributors, in particular the project team: Armina Richter, Laura Sadewater, Rabea Hanenkamp, Victoria Lechler, Darleen Köhn.
