The Hannover Science Initiative, founded at the beginning of 2007, links several of the city's universities with science and university-related institutions and the state capital itself in order to increase the attractiveness of the university and science location, promote its internationality and improve the general conditions for students. The network is coordinated by the "Science City Hannover" organizational unit in the Lord Mayor's office. The initiative and its reference projects are part of the urban development program "My Hannover 2030".

The  Dual Career Service  is aimed at the partners of newly-appointed professors and provides support with career perspectives in Hannover and the surrounding region. For this purpose, Leibniz Universität Hannover coordinates a network comprising all higher education institutions in Hannover, non-university research institutions, funding bodies and the city of Hannover, as well as companies, organisations, associations and foundations.
