Responsibilities of the Treasury Department
As the Cashier’s Office, we are primarily responsible for the AStA’s payment transactions and other financial matters. Our duties also include managing the AStA’s keys and supervising the secretaries (‘Sekris’).
During opening hours, the Sekris are your first point of contact at the AStA. You can purchase lecture notes, scalpel blades and other materials from them. As the Finance Department, we organise the recruitment of new Sekris and draw up their employment contracts. As soon as a vacancy arises, we advertise it in good time via the student email distribution lists so that you can apply for it.
Responsibilities of the Finance Department
The Finance Department ensures that the AStA’s work is built on a sound financial footing. One of its most important tasks is planning and drawing up the annual budget. In doing so, the Finance Department keeps track of the AStA’s income and expenditure and considers how financial resources can be used and allocated wisely.
In addition, the department manages day-to-day finances, checks invoices, authorises bank transfers and prepares accounts for projects, events and other departments. In this way, I ensure that funds are used transparently, responsibly and in accordance with the applicable financial regulations.
Another important part of my work is advising other departments and student initiatives, such as the Medimeisterschaften, on financial matters. Together, we develop ideas and examine how projects can be implemented and funded.
The Finance Department offers fascinating insights into budget planning, financial management and the organisation of student activities. Our work lays the foundations for events, projects and services for students to take place in the first place – and thus actively contributes to a vibrant campus life.
Borrowing AStA items
We also organise the hire of various items belonging to the AStA, such as waffle irons, hotplates and mulled wine kettles. For university events, you can borrow the items you need from the secretaries during opening hours in exchange for a deposit. If you need a cash box for a university event, you can also borrow this from us in exchange for a deposit.
You can find a list of all available items on the ‘AStA Offers’ page. You
also have the option of borrowing group membership cards from the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH Card) from us.
With these, you can enjoy the benefits and exclusive access at 400 youth hostels across Germany and a total of 2,500 youth hostels in 60 countries worldwide. You also have access to exclusive discounts from DJH partners, such as offers on group tickets from Deutsche Bahn.
The group card is valid in Germany for groups of 4 or more people and abroad for groups of 10 or more people. One group leader must borrow the DJHCard. For further information or if you have any questions, please visit the DJH website: www.jugendherberge.de
