The Joachim and Irene Hahn Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to promote young scientists at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation in the form of awards for scientific work and the awarding of scholarships to young scientists.
The Founders
It is a personal interest of the founding couple Joachim and Irene Hahn to offer good development opportunities to talented young scientists. Professor Dr. Joachim Hahn worked at the TiHo for almost 40 years and was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of Lower Saxony by the Minister of Science, Lutz Stratmann, for his excellent scientific achievements on February 21, 2005.
The Award
Every year, the proceeds of the foundation are used to award and honor excellent work by young scientists. The award, financed by the Foundation, is intended to recognize an excellent scientific publication or dissertation in the field of veterinary medicine as a whole - especially in the field of reproductive biology. Proposals from all fields will be considered. The award is endowed with 1,000 euros and was first presented on the occasion of the PhD celebration in the summer semester of 2003.
Application and deadlines
The habilitated members of the teaching staff of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover Foundation are requested to submit three copies each of their work worthy of distinction and promotion to the President by March 15. An award will only take place if at least two proposals have been submitted. If only one proposal is submitted, the award will be re-advertised for presentation at the following doctoral graduation ceremony (winter graduation). The deadline for applications is then September 15. The proposal from the previous call will be considered for review in the second call. It is possible to award a prize to two persons if no award was made in the previous year. The Board of Trustees of the Joachim and Irene Hahn Foundation decides on the awarding of the award.
