[Translate to English:] Bild mit Mikroskop

The virtual microscope provides students and members of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover with the opportunity to study common specimen of microscopic anatomy, parasitology, and pathological histology on-screen. The virtual microscopes are intended to complement and deepen the understanding gained from lectures and aid in exam preparation.

The virtual microscope of the Institute for Anatomy consists of common specimen in cytology, histology, and microscopic anatomy. These specimen include original course specimens ('Green and Red Box') used in the institute's lectures, as well as selected additional specimens for demonstrating "Functional Histology." This project was developed in collaboration with the research group of Prof. Dr. Achim Gruber, Institute of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universität Berlin.

The virtual microscope of the Institute of Parasitology contains common specimen in entomology, protozoology, and helminthology.

Since the summer semester of 2022, a virtual microscope from the Institute of Pathology is also available. Students and members of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover now have the opportunity to study over 40 common specimen of pathological histology.

Starting from the winter semester of 2022, a virtual microscope from the Institute of Microbiology is also available. In total, the microscope consists of 42 culture smears, organ smears, or impression preparations, along with additional macroscopic images of the corresponding cultures and further diagnostic tests. These specimen include:

  • Gram-positive cocci
  • Gram-positive rod-shaped bacteria
  • Gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria
  • Acid-fast rod-shaped bacteria
  • Obligate anaerobic bacteria
  • Yeast, mold and dermatophytes

The virtual microscope can be accessed via the 'E-Learning-Angebote' section in TiHoStudIS or TiHoDozIS.
