Individual lab course
Lecturers of the HGNI
block Workshop, 8 hoursTo be announced
This course aims to provide hands-on learning in labs with focus on specific state-of-the-art techniques that are relevant or of individual interest for the PhD student. Experienced lecturers and scientists provide the benefits of live, in-person training. Extensive training is provided by the labs.
This course thereby also stimulates cooperations among scientists between different HGNI-institutions or cooperating labs.
The students gain experience on specific state-of-the-art techniques, which are relevant for infection research. The course includes
? background knowledge about the principles of the technique
? practical hands-on-training including trouble shooting
? user examples on scientific application of the respective technique

single Workshop, 8 hours, max. 10 participantsFri 26.04.24, 09:00 - 17:00
This course aims to introduce into mass spectrometry based proteomics. A first (theoretical) module covers the basic principles of shotgun proteomics. A second (hands on) module deals with the processing of Mass Spectrometry derived data with a main focus on strategies for the analysis of large datasets applying the MaxQuant and Perseus software packages, respectively. Software and datasets will be provided, however, participants are invited to bring their own datasets to discuss more specific analysis options.

Protein-protein interactions are involved in all biological processes. Studying those interactions is therefore crucial to understand molecular mechanisms within the cell or organism as well as during pathogen infection of the hosts.
This workshop will cover the basics of hypothesis driven as well as exploratory experimental designs to study protein-protein interactions. We will discuss co-immunoprecipitation strategies including suitable controls and the theory and experimental design of proximity labeling approaches. After learning about these technologies, we will design and discuss experimental approaches for different research questions with the possibility for the participants to discuss their own project ideas.
After the workshop, the participants will have gained an understanding of the principles, opportunities and limitations of co-immunoprecipitation and proximity labeling experiments and will be able to design experiments independently to address research questions revolving around protein-protein interactions.
