Admission to a higher semester requires recognised academic achievements and examinations from a veterinary medicine programme in Germany or abroad, or achievements and examinations from a related university programme (e.g. biology, agricultural sciences, agricultural biology) that are equivalent to those of a veterinary medicine programme.
Please note:
- Previous academic achievements from universities of applied sciences cannot be recognised.
- It is also not possible to transfer credits from training and further education courses.
- In accordance with Section 17 (1) of the Ordinance on the Licensing of Veterinarians (TAppV), failing an examination subject of the preliminary veterinary examination or veterinary examination three times in the previous veterinary medicine programme at another university will result in the rejection of the application for admission to a higher semester.
The basis for the assessment of prior academic achievements is the curriculum of the university to which you are applying. Therefore, it may not be possible to enrol at TiHo even though you have already studied one or more semesters of veterinary medicine – albeit according to a different study plan. This may mean that you are missing study or examination credits that are acquired at TiHo at an earlier stage in the course of study.
Only examination results that are required under the TAppV are generally credited for studies at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Please also note that the recognition notice is only valid at the issuing university/college (TiHo). You will only receive a recognition notice if you are also offered a place at TiHo and enrol for your studies.
For potential recognition of study and examination achievements at TiHo, the following must be provided
- an application for a higher semester
- an official overview of grades/performance, clearly showing which courses have been successfully completed and how many examination attempts per examination subject have been successfully or unsuccessfully completed to date (including grades, if applicable)
- an overview of the course content (module/content descriptions) including ECTS and time/hour requirements must be provided for the determination of equivalence.
A confirmation of enrolment or a list of the examination subjects/modules etc. taken is not sufficient!
For academic achievements completed in non-German-speaking countries, a certified translation into German or English must be submitted along with the application (transcripts, certificates, module descriptions).
- Please note that all documents must be submitted in one language (either all in German or all in English).
Only complete applications (i.e. application, transcripts, descriptions of the respective courses, certified copies if applicable) will be processed. The earliest possible date for reviewing previous academic achievements is when applying for a place in a higher semester. No preliminary reviews will be carried out!
Please upload the documents required for the review of previous academic achievements via the portal as part of your application.
