Anatomy and its sub-disciplines is one of the basic disciplines of veterinary medicine. It forms the foundation for veterinary training and the future profession.

The Institute of Anatomy covers teaching, postgraduate studies (e.g. postgraduate specialization in anatomy) and research in the fields of anatomy, histology and embryology - including the functional aspects of all sub-areas and cell and molecular biology.

The Institute's research focuses on reproductive biology issues relating to the female (AG Prof. Pfarrer) and male reproductive organs (AG Prof. Brehm).

In teaching, the working groups cover all areas of anatomy together. This is made possible by the lecturers' responsibility for specific subject blocks that correspond to topographical regions. In teaching, the lecturers emphasise applied and clinical aspects as well as practical relevance. This regularly results in the exchange of lecturers between the Institute of Anatomy and the clinics of the TiHo.

The development of e-learning applications for veterinary teaching and veterinary further education and training also has a long tradition at the Institute of Anatomy.
