From October 21 to 25, 2024, an international group of experts will visit the TiHo to evaluate the teaching, research and service offerings. The EAEVE is the European association of veterinary training centers. It also includes institutions in Asia (Turkey, Japan). All European universities and faculties that offer a veterinary medicine course are assessed by the EAEVE every seven years. In order to ensure a high standard of veterinary training throughout Europe, the EU has defined minimum requirements for veterinary training in a directive. The EAEVE has taken on the task of checking whether the universities actually meet these requirements. This is a peer review process. This means that the members of the expert group come from other veterinary training institutions that are also members of the EAEVE. Following a positive assessment, the TiHo is included in a list of evaluated veterinary training institutions recognized by the EAEVE, and the accreditation becomes official. This is important for graduates of the TiHo: with the accreditation, other European educational institutions recognize the studies completed at the TiHo. It also means that graduates are free to practise their profession within the EU and, if applicable, beyond.
The last evaluation of the TiHo took place in 2018. The TiHo had to submit a comprehensive self-evaluation report before the international group of experts visited. This report is prepared according to fixed specifications and lists the data and facts as well as decision-making and communication channels for all aspects of the studies in veterinary medicine at the TiHo. During the week of the visit, the evaluators visit the clinics and institutes as well as some teaching events. This is followed by discussions with students, professors, academic staff and employees from the technical and administrative departments.
