Target group

The MSc Food Process and Product Engineering (Msc FPPE) programme is aimed at graduates with a Bachelor's degree in subjects such as food technology, beverage technology, ecotrophology, food chemistry, biotechnology, veterinary medicine or biology, process engineering or engineering sciences, but also chemical engineering.

Number of places, application deadline

From winter semester 2023/24 on, 25 places per academic year will be available, which will be allocated through the university's own admission procedure. The programme begins in the winter semester. The application starts at the 1st of May, deadline is 15 July each year. The exact requirements can be found in the regulations on admission to the international Master's programme MSc FPPE.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science or comparable degree.
    If the Bachelor's degree certificate is not yet available by the application deadline, it is sufficient to submit a certificate stating that 150 ECTS have been earned in the Bachelor's degree programme to date and that it is expected that the Bachelor's degree will be obtained no later than four weeks after the start of lectures in the first semester (copy of the registration for the Bachelor's thesis).

  • Proof of English language skills at least at level B2 (certification of graded degree); alternatively: proof as a native speaker or longer-term stays (at least one year; academic purpose) in an English-speaking country, e.g. school year abroad (reports, certificates), if not native speaker

  • For foreigners: German language skills at least at level A1(certification of successful participation), if not native speaker.

All available places are awarded in accordance with a ranking based on the BSc class of degree. In the case of same BSc classes of degree a draw decides the ranking.

There is a semester fee of circa 400 EUR per semester, including the semester travel ticket for Hannover and Lower Saxony.

A personal laptop is required to complete assignments and individual modules.

Recognized language certificates

The following credentials are acceptable for the English credential:

  • IELTS
  • TOEFL
  • Cambridge English, Language Assessment
  • Pearson PTE Academic
  • TOEIC
  • Telc
  • UNIcert
  • Cambridge IGCSE
  • The applicant's national language is English
  • Proof of English language studies or training
  • At least 6 years of school English, verifiable with certificate (English must be on the certificate, not foreign language or similar)

The following certificates are accepted as proof of German language proficiency:

  • Goethe-Zertifikat
  • Telc
  • ÖSD
  • German language examination of the Sprachen- und Dolmetscher-Institut München (Munich Language and Interpreting Institute)
  • German Abitur or completed studies with German as language
  • German Abitur or training
