Hans Hellmann Memorial Award

In 1999 for the first time, the Hans Hellmann Memorial Award was given for the best doctoral dissertation on a basic-oriented topic. The award is granted by the Innovative Veterinary Diagnostics (IVD) Laboratory.

The Founder

The award is named after a teacher of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover: Dr. Eng. Hans Hellmann who was a physics lecturer at the TiHo from 1931 to 1934. His scientific work in the basic subject Quantum Chemistry was on an outstanding level. Since his wife was of Jewish descent, he had to leave the TiHo during the rule of the National Socialists. In 1938 he was executed in the Soviet Union for suspicion of espionage.
