Admission to the 1st Semester

German university applicants, foreign university applicants from member states of the European Union or other contracting states of the treaty on the European Economic Area and foreign and stateless university applicants with German higher education entrance qualification (so-called “Bildungsinländer”) must apply at the University Admissions Foundation (SfH) in a online procedure via www.hochschulstart.de.

The following deadlines are valid for the application:

  • not later than July 15 of this year, for applicants obtaining their university entry (High School Graduate or equivalent degree) between January 16 and July 15

After consideration of the advance quotas, the available places to study are allocated according to the VergabeVO-Stiftung as follows:

20 pc..    to the best high school graduates

20 pc.:    according to waiting period

60 pc.     In the selection procedure of the university (AdH)

Information about the selection limits of the previous years can also be found under www.hochschulstart.de

Best high school graduates

Within this quota (20% of the places to study), allocation is carried out according to the average grade of the higher education entrance qualification (high school graduate or other qualification)

Waiting time

Within this quota (20% of the places to study), allocation is carried out according to the number of waiting semesters. These are calculated from the number of semesters elapsed since obtaining the higher education entrance qualification. An application under www.hochschulstart.de is not required to start calculation. The time of an education is also counted towards the waiting time, only parking study times are deducted. Parking study times are semesters in which you are registered at a German university. Semesters in which you were only registered but did not participate in lectures or you were on leave for example are also applied as registered.

Selection procedure

For the allocation of places to study in the selection procedure of the university – AdH – (60% of the places to study), hochschulstart.de first carries out a pre-selection on behalf of our university

All applicants who named the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover in the first place on the list of location preference (1st place of study) and have an average high school grade of 2.5 or better are selected for participation at the university’s own procedure.

The applicants receive the notification about participation in further selection procedures of the individual universities as of August of this year by hochschulstart.de. This notification is made simultaneously with the notice of rejection from the best high school graduates and the waiting time quotas.

The written motivation test for the procedure 2014/15 is carried out

  • most likely between August 14 and August 21, 2014 directly at our university (alternative dates and other locations of execution are not possible)
  • invitations containing further information about date, time and documents to bring with you are directly sent by our university on August 8

In the university`s own procedure, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover makes its selection according to the following criteria:

1. Average grade of the higher education entrance qualification (HZB)

2. Result of a written motivation test

3. Completion of state-recognized professional training for at least two years in a study-
    relevant profession (where applicable)
