This research project is carried out in cooperation between Prof. Dr. Distl and the Sammantic kennel at the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics.

Project Objectives: The focus of the project is to elucidate the heritability of cataract and distichiasis. For the elucidation of the causes of these diseases all possibilities of modern genome research are used.

Sample collection: For the success of the research a sufficient number of samples of healthy and diseased dogs is crucial. We therefore ask all breeders to participate in the project and contribute to its success. You can send blood samples from your dogs to the Institute for Animal Breeding and Genetics, Hanover, starting immediately.

Breeds: We are collecting samples from all breeds. To be considered for the study, the dog must have been examined by a DOK eye veterinarian.

Important: Please send a copy of the pedigree and copies of veterinary findings (especially DOK protocol).
