Open Access funding programme by DFG

The German Research Foundation (DFG) supports publishing in approved Open Access journals with a funding programme. However, some requirements must be fulfilled.

Eligibility conditions for the funding of publication fees

  •  The articles must have been accepted for publication in a journal offering contributions that are fully accessible online to users free of charge immediately upon publication ("real" Open Access journal) and that exercises recognised editorial quality control in the respective field.
  • The journal should therefore be listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals or another certified database (e.g. PubMed). Please check here and there whether the publisher is really suitable for publication.
  • Publication fees do not exceed a maximum of € 2.000 per article (including all taxes). There will be no subsidies for higher-priced APCs.
  • Only articles for which a member of the Stiftung Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover as corresponding author is responsible for the payment of publication fees can be financed.
  • The criteria for eligibility do not include articles that can be made accessible online for a fee in parallel with their publication in a subscription-based journal ("hybrid", such as the Springer Open Choice model). As a result, publishers earn additional author's fees in addition to the subscription income from journals. This so-called hybrid financing model is controversial and will not be funded by the DFG.
  • If publications are produced within a third-party-funded project, it must be carefully examined whether this third-party-funding provider can cover the article fees. If possible, these APCs must be financed primarily by the third-party funder.
  • A second publication of the sponsored article must take place soon on the TiHo repository.

If a publication meets these criteria, please feel free to complete the application form.
