The following describes the established PhD-program

The Center for Systems Neuroscience (ZSN), Hannover, Germany, an interdisciplinary research center combining working groups of the University of Veterinary Medicine, the Medical School, the University of Music and Theater and the University of Hannover, cordially invites graduates of various life sciences (biology, veterinary and human medicine, biochemistry and affiliated natural sciences, such as e.g. physics) to pursue a research project leading to a PhD or Dr. rer. nat. (Start: October 1st, 2010).   In the 3-year-program PhD-students will gain broad multidisciplinary knowledge in the field of neuroscience and develop valuable complementary skills.

 

Neuroscience represents a complex emerging research field and includes the interaction between various disciplines ranging from neurobiology, behavioral science, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology as well as molecular biology. The Center of Systems Neuroscience (ZSN) is prepared to provide the base and guidelines for an excellent training in neuroscience. Successful candidates should be prepared to combat the up-coming challenges in neuroscience.

The program includes a variety of courses, seminars and lab classes organized in a Graduate School-like manner.  

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You have completed your university studies with a Master's or Diploma degree (or equivalent) in human medicine, veterinary medicine, dental medicine, biology, biochemistry, chemistry or an other fiel of natural  sciences by the time of the (intended) start date.
  • In speciall cases Master or Diploma degrees of Universities of applyed sciences will be accepted.
  • The positions are open to all nationalities. Students should be fluent in English. Non-domestic applicants should be willing to acquire basic knowledge in German.

In order to apply for the program the following documents must be submitted (only applications in English or German will be accepted):

  • A cover letter clarifying your research interest (max. 1 page)
  • Your CV (europass form)
  • Copies of certificates and transcripts (if necessary include English translations)
  • Non-native speakers of English should demonstrate an adequate competence of the English language by acceptable results in an internationally recognized test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL, CPE). Participation in such a test is recommended but not obligatory  - language skills can also be evaluated during personal interviews with selected candidates. Proven higher education in English or a reasonably long stay in an English speaking country are acceptable 
  • Applicants from China must prove their certificates by APS (www.aps.org.cn/web/)
