PhD student

PhD project: "Acoustic basis for biodiversity: Echolocation, acoustic communication and genetic variability in two morphotypes of the Cuban bat Macrotus waterhousii"

Supervised by PD Dr. S. Schmidt, Prof. Dr. H. Pröhl, PD Dr. B. Siemers

Involved in: "Acoustic communication during ritualised courtship in the Indian False Vampire Bat, Megaderma lyra"

Main interests
My main research interest is the understanding of the manifold forces which lead to recent species richness and diversification, especially in mammals and particularly in echolocating bats. Understanding biodiversity requires an integrative approach comprising ethological analyses, classical morphology and phylogenetic methods as it is implemented in my current PhD project. It centers on the taxonomic assessment of a Cuban bat species at population level by investigating different traits which could have been shaped by selection pressures.
